Access the Hydromagic USB dongle over a LAN network
The Hydromagic Survey and Dredging software packages are protected against unauthorized use by an USB dongle. The software itself is encrypted and won't run until the decryption information can be read from the USB dongle.
In some cases it is not possible to use the USB dongle on your computer or multiple license are required. For instance when your computer has no USB ports available, the software is running on a virtual machine or when the software is used in a classroom for educational purposes.
In these cases it is possible to access the dongle over the network. For educational purposes it is also possible to access the dongle from more then one computer at a time. Please note that this is only possible when using Hydromagic version 8.2 or later and when your dongle has been enabled to be accessed over the network.
If not sure whether your dongle has been enabled for network access, please email support a license request file. For more information on how to create such a request, please check out this page.
Installing the CodeMeter Runtime Server
The computer where the dongle will be connected to will be the 'License Server'. In order to share the dongle with other computers, the CodeMeter User Runtime has to be installed. To do so, download and install the 'CodeMeter User Runtime for Windows' from https://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-software.html.
Configuration of the License Server
After installing the runtime, a CodeMeter icon will be displayed in the system tray (called notification area since Windows 10). Right click on this icon and select the 'WebAdmin' option from the popup menu that appears. This will open the web based configuration in your default browser.
You can also access the 'WebAdmin' page by entering http://localhost:22350/index.html in your browser.
In the 'WebAdmin' screen select 'Server' from the 'Configuration' menu and enable the 'Network Server'.
The port number can be left with its default value '22350'. Click 'Apply' to save the changes.
Now click the 'License Access Permissions' tab and select 'Basic' as permission mode.
In the 'Basic Mode Configuration' section, add the IP address from all computers that are allowed to access the dongle.
Make sure you enter the correct IPv4 addresses or host names. Without this setting the software will not run on these computers !
Again, click 'Apply' to save the settings. Now reboot this computer and the 'License Server' is ready to go.
Configuring the Client(s)
On the 'Client' site (where the Hydromagic software will be running) the CodeMeter Runtime Server has to be installed as well.
See the 'Installing the CodeMeter Runtime Server' above. The download and installation process will be exactly the same as for the license server.
In the 'WebAdmin', while not required, it is recommended that you set the address of the license server. This allows a quicker lookup of the address where the dongle is located. To do so, right click on this icon and select the 'WebAdmin' option from the popup menu that appears. This will open the web based configuration in your default browser.
You can also access the 'WebAdmin' page by entering http://localhost:22350/index.html in your browser.
In the 'WebAdmin' screen select 'Basic Configuration' from the 'Configuration' menu and select the 'Server Search List'.
Click the 'Add new Server' button and enter the IP address or host name of the License Server. Click 'Apply' to save the changes.
You should now be able to run the software on the client computer with the dongle connected to the server computer.
