Uninstalling, upgrading or re-installing Hydromagic
This manual page explains the best way to quickly uninstall, upgrade or re-install your current Hydromagic installation. It explains how to backup your configuration, remove your software, install the software and restore the configuration. Depending on which operation you are doing, some paragraphs can be skipped.
Backing up your current configuration
The configuration file contains information on the plugins configured, global user settings, like units and colors and more. To preserve your configuration when you update or reinstall your software, this file can be exported to a safe location so it won't be overwritten during the installation process. When you are planning to reinstall or update the software, it is recommended to back up your existing configuration. To do so, select the "Export Configuration..." option from the "File" => "Export" menu as shown in the image below:
After selecting this option a "Save As" file dialog will be shown where you can enter the location of the configuration file. This could also be on an USB stick in case you want to transfer the software to another computer. When the configuration is used on the same computer, make sure to store it in a location where you can easily find the file, for instance on the desktop.
There is no need to create a backup of your projects. Although it is good practice to back up your projects from time to time, they wont be deleted when uninstalling or updating the software.

Uninstalling the software
Windows 7
To uninstall Hydromagic on Windows 7, first ensure that Hydromagic Survey has been closed. Once closed, go to your Start Menu and then Control Panel. In the Control Panel, select the option to uninstall a program (located under the Programs category); the window that appears may take a moment to populate with a list of installed applications. Once the list populates, locate "Eye4Software Hydromagic" in the list of installed applications and right-click on "Eye4Software Hydromagic", and choose Remove.
Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows 11
To uninstall Hydromagic on Windows 8 first ensure that Hydromagic Survey has been closed. Once closed, go to your Start Menu, right click and select the "Programs and Features" item. When you click on this option, you will be brought to a new window that may take a moment to populate with a list of installed applications. Once the list populates, locate "Eye4Software Hydromagic" in the list of installed applications, right-click and choose "Uninstall/Change".
Select the "Uninstall" button after selecting Hydromagic from the Apps and Features list.
Downloading an updated version
The software can be downloaded from the download page on our website. Depending on whether you already own a license, and the operating system you are running (32- or 64-bit), select one of the four downloads offered on this page. The download size will be approximately 80 megabytes. Please note that some components have to be installed later on, such as geoid models, NTv2 datum correction grids and grid shift grids.
When upgrading to a newer version of the software, make sure that your support or maintenance contract is still valid; otherwise, you won't be able to run the latest version from the website. In this case you can download an older version from the download archive.
Select the appropriate download link for your operating system and license.
Launching the installer
To install the software, execute the download executable. It is recommended to run the installer with "Administrator" privileges to make sure all files can be installed and setup information can be stored in the Windows Registry. To execute the installer with "Administrator" privileges, locate the file in your download folder, right-click it, and select the "Run as Administrator..." option from the context menu. At this moment, an Administrator password might be required to continue. Please contact your system administrator for more information. It is recommended to run the installer with "Administrator" privileges.
Restoring the configuration
After installing or updating the software, you can restore your old configuration settings by importing the configuration file you stored earlier. To do so, select the "Import Configuration..." option from the "File" => "Import" menu as shown in the image below. After selecting this option, an 'Open File' dialog will be shown where you can enter the location of the configuration file. Select the file and click "OK". The old configuration should now be imported.
