Why is the message "WARNING: Geodesy database is read only! Please run the software as an Administrator." displayed when starting the software?



This error message appears when the software can’t read or write the database which contains all the coordinate reference systems. One of the reasons is that the software isn’t run with sufficient privileges, but it might also be caused by a corrupted database. Please check the following:

  1. Try if the software is usable when ignoring this message – when the database isn’t corrupted the software should work in “read-only” mode;
  2. If not, make sure you delete the “C:\ProgramData\Hydromagic\Database\geo.db” file and then reinstall the software;
  3. Reinstall the software from scratch from the website. Make sure the installer software is executed in “Administrator Mode”. Please note that you wont loose any data but it is recommended to backup your configuration first (File => Export => Export Configuration);
  4. After installation make sure the “C:\ProgramData\Hydromagic\Database\geo.db” file exists;
  5. Try to temporary disable any virusscanners you might have. Maybe the file is blocked because of a “false positive”.
